PitWatch has done some interesting bio-research at the pit (which has a pH similar to vinegar).

I can't wait to see the Pit -- definitely on my list of "Must See" things when I (finally) make a visit to Butte!
Admission to the Pit is free if you go on the trolley tour, which costs $10.
