I played with a Sony Reader at Border's today ($300). Very nice. I like its form factor better than the Kindle. You have to jump through some hoops to get it to work with a Mac, unfortunately.
It's supposed to work fine with Project Gutenberg. That is a real plus for me, since I enjoy reading "classics" but am trying to drastically reduce my book clutter.

Interesting. Have you gotten to play with a Kindle, too?
I've wanted Kindle since the Amazon CEO demoed one on Martha a week or so ago.
I thought the whole point of a wireless reading device was that you didn't need a computer?
Patia -
I haven't had a chance to play with a Kindle.
Here are two side-by-side comparisons: 1, 2
I think the Sony Reader has a nicer form factor -- more compact, but still big enough to read comfortably
For me, wireless would not be worth the extra 100 bucks. I would be content to use my Mac to grab out-of-copyright books from Project Gutenberg.
Oh, I see what you mean about FF. The Sony is a little sleeker, isn't it? I think I'd like the ease of wireless, though, especially for subscriptions like magazines.
For a while, I downloaded books onto my Palm, but found it was too small for very enjoyable reading. These devices could change that.
Have you gotten to play with a Kindle, too? Thanks for sharing...
